WHERE IS MT.KILIMANJARO?

HOW MUCH TIME DO I NEED TO CLIMB  KILIMANJARO?
We recommend a minimum of 6days on the mountain, although some people may wish more time for the trip. The Rongai route entails 6 days on the mountain while the Machame route has two options, a 6-day hike, and a 7-day hike. For those that need extra time to adjust to the altitude, the Lemosho route is best, with 8 days total on the mountain. The Marangu Route is the shortest route at a total of 5 days on the mountain. If you are concerned about altitude sickness, it is best to go with a minimum 6-day hike, give yourself enough time to acclimatize. Kilimanjaro is located in North East of Tanzania-East Africa. The Machame, Lemosho, Umbwe and Rongai routes are camping routes that take longer and are considered more picturesque than the Marangu. On the Marangu route, you will be staying in designed wood huts and you trek up and down
.HOW FAR DO I HIKE EACH DAY?
There is no hurry when trekking mount Kilimanjaro”pole-pole” It is more sensible to measure each day in hours walked rather than km. you will spend  4-5 hours including a stopover for lunch each day . on the summit day you may spend 6-8hrs ascending likewise descending to the camp
DO I NEED TO TRAIN MYSELF FOR KILIMANJARO TREKKING? “PHYSICAL FITNESS”
Mt. Kilimanjaro is known as a non-technical mountain. No special climbing equipment or skill is required to successfully climb to the summit. However, you have to be in fair shape and general good health. Good preparation ensures a comfortable climb and higher chance of successful summiting
We recommend that you should consult your doctor and let him know that you are planning on climbing the mountain.
Pregnant person, a person with back problems, a person with heart issues or a person who is in serious medical treatments and children below 12 years old should NOT attempt to climb to Mt. Kilimanjaro.
We recommend putting together a program of light aerobics, cycling at list a month prior to climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro.
You can add up;
-Daily Walking, if possible with your hiking boots at least 2 miles.
-Walking on high and low elevation will strengthen your calves and leg muscles.
-Use a treadmill, set a variety of inclines to simulate a gentle and steep slope
HOW CAN I COMBAT MOUNTAIN SICKNESS?
During the trek, anyone can develop altitude sickness, no matter how to fit.  This caused by the failure of the body to adapt quickly enough to the reduced level of oxygen in the air at an increased altitude.  There are many different symptoms but the most common are;
-Headaches, light-headedness,
-Dizziness, shortness of breath,
-Vomiting, Fatigue, and loss of energy,
-Nausea, loss of appetite, tingling in the toes and fingers,
-And a mild swell of ankles and fingers.
-These mild forms are not serious and will normally disappear within 48 hours.  Please --visit your physician for any preventative medications.
The most important treatment for any level of altitude sickness is to go down to a lower elevation as soon as possible while remaining safe
 DO YOU OFFER CRATER CAMP OPTION ON KILIMANJARO TREKS?

Yes, An overnight stop at Crater Camp is an optional extra on any customized Kilimanjaro Treks, usually lasting eight actual mountain days or more on the Shira, Lemosho, Umbwe and Machame routes. Possibly the most bizarre place you will ever see, it is visited by less than 5% of the tourist who annually ascends Kilimanjaro.

HOW CAN I AVOID MOUNTAIN SICKNESS?
Train yourself to lower your pace it’s a critical factor, remember no hurry in Africa “Tembea pole- pole”
Try to drink at least 4 liters per day.
Avoid tobacco, alcohol, and other depressant drugs including barbiturates, tranquilizers, and sleeping pills.
Always listen to your mountain guide he knows better and he is trained enough to detect the symptoms.
Don’t go up until symptoms go down.
Acclimatized before going higher you can start with mount Meru before Mt Kilimanjaro.
Before your trip, maintain a good work/rest cycle, avoid excessive work hours, and last-minute packing.
Listen to your body do not push beyond your ability.
Try to walk high sleep low: after arriving at the camp you can relax a while and try to go further up and return for overnight.
The best way you can lower your chance of getting altitude sickness is through acclimatization. That means you let your body slowly get used to the changes in air pressure as you go to higher elevations. That why we recommend you should take at list 3 days to Mount Meru before going to Kilimanjaro or add an extra day on Kilimanjaro for acclimatization

Betheli expedition does not collect tip on behalf of the crew & it should be handled directly to each crew member individually on the last day at the gate.
